Dorothy Jacket Add-On Hood Stitch School Sewing Pattern

Make the Dorothy Jacket even more practical by adding a detachable hood!

Our Dorothy Jacket sewing pattern is the perfect outerwear for spring and autumn. Now you can make Dorothy weather-proof with the Add-On Hood. The great news is that if you’ve already made the jacket, there is no unstitching involved to add the hood. We’ve made it detachable, so you can put it on your Dorothy when you need it and take it off when you don’t.

In the Stitch School Workshop, we’ll show you how to sew a neatly lined hood that connects to the Dorothy Jacket with simple press stud fastenings.

Sew the Dorothy Jacket and Add-On Hood in a cotton twill, cotton drill, twill crepe, gabardine or stretch denim. You could also use a mediumweight waterproof fabric like a waxed canvas to make a classic raincoat. Have fun with the hood lining by using a coordinating or contrasting cotton. It’s a great chance to use up some scraps from your stash!

PLEASE NOTE: The Dorothy Jacket Add-On Hood is not a complete pattern. You will need a copy of the Dorothy Jacket pattern to attach the hood to.

The Dorothy Jacket Add-On Hood sewing pattern is exclusively available as part of the Workshop on Stitch School, our online sewing classroom. Buy the class as a one-off get it as part of a Stitch School Premium Subscription.

Fabric Suggestions
The Dorothy Jacket and Add-On Hood are perfect for medium weight fabrics, such as cotton twill, cotton drill, twill crepe, gabardine, stretch denim and heavier linens. Try a waterproof fabric to make a great raincoat! For the Hood lining, you can use the same fabric as the outer hood, or use a cotton fabric in coordinating or contrast colours.

Sizing & Fabric Requirements
The Dorothy Jacket and Add-On Hood are sized between UK sizes 6-30 and is split into two different blocks: sizes 6-20 (B cup) and sizes 18-30 (D cup). See the chart image for details on fabric requirements.

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.

So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively, you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
