Sewing our Personal Style for Galentine’s Day
Last week was Galentine’s Day, and the perfect excuse for some sewing-based team bonding. We chose the theme ‘personal style’ for our sewing sesh, which encouraged us to hack up some of our favourite Sew Over It patterns to help them fit seamlessly in our wardrobes.
We learned that Rosie’s one true style love is a shirt dress, Becca doesn’t let a set-back prevent her from an exquisite finish, it’s easy to totally transform a pattern with some simple tweaks, plus lots more!
If you love getting inspired by others’ makes you can catch our video on our YouTube channel, or watch above!
Fancy a quick look first?
Becca made an Anna Coat in this gorgeous black wool. She added a Liberty print silk lining, welt pockets and a waist seam to help adapt the coat to suit her height.
Alexandra made this fab pair of Ultimate Culottes. She chose a wonderful bottle green corduroy, which really encapsulates her slightly grungy style. She finished the waist with a facing, and added self-drafted pockets. She plans to make a teal leopard print Molly Top to finish her outfit.
Nicole made a pretty Pussy Bow Blouse from a dainty muted blue floral crepe. So she can wear it comfortably under her hand-knit cardis, she decided to leave off the sleeves and make a sleeveless version. She borrowed the arm hole shape from the Vintage Shirt Dress, and finished it with bias binding cut from the same fabric.
Alex has combined two patterns to make a needlecord pinafore dress. She attached the bib and straps from the Sara Dungarees to the Ava Skirt for a simple yet satisfying pattern hack. She omitted the pockets, moved the invisible zip to the side seam and crossed the straps over each other at the back for a nice casual feel.
Rosie sewed up a Kate Dress in a fantastic geometric print which encapsulates her style completely. To make it more wearable for her day to day, Rosie swapped the gored skirt of the Kate Dress for a simple gathered skirt.
We didn’t manage to get a photo of our sixth team vlogger Lydia, so you’ll just have to watch the video if you want to see her gorgeous Betty Dress with hacked Y-shape darts.
