Make your own jeans with our Ultimate Jeans sewing pattern!
Have you always wanted to make your own jeans but have been too scared to try?
Our Ultimate Jeans are made for you! A jeans sewing pattern has been in our plans for a while and we wanted to get it just right before releasing it into the world. A lot of work went into breaking down the process so it wouldn’t feel too overwhelming and a huge shout out goes to our Pattern Manager Nicole for her incredible work on the instructions and illustrations. Have a look at our YouTube vlog to learn more about the Ultimate Jeans from Lisa.
Making jeans is seen as a sewing milestone because of how complex they look. However, if you take it slow and approach the process step by step, it’s not much harder than other intermediate sewing patterns. Take your time – it’s a marathon, not a sprint – and we definitely recommend you make a toile for this pattern. It’s better to figure out any fit adjustments before you dive into the construction and topstitching.
To make sure this is the only jeans pattern you’ll ever need, we’ve given you three design options. You can choose the one that suits your style best or make a whole range using all versions! Make the Ultimate Jeans with a classic straight leg, a cropped ‘mum jeans’ cut or with a groovy flared leg. This 70s style is great for vintage lovers and is also hugely popular at the moment.
The best fabric to make the Ultimate Jeans in is, of course, denim, and we have some beautiful ones in stock. You can use either a non-stretch or a stretch denim if you’d like a bit more comfort. Learn everything there is to know about this kind of fabric from our Introduction to Denim class on Stitch School!
This pattern would also work beautifully in corduroy or in a sturdy stretch cotton. You might need to take in the sides a little if you’re using a fabric with elastane. It’s a good idea to hold off cutting out the waistband until you have sewn the front and back legs together with the right fit. You can then measure the waist and cut the band accordingly.

Because it’s quite an involved project, we focused on some important details to get you in the mood to make your own pair.
We’ll also be releasing an in-depth jeans class on Stitch School, our online learning platform, so it’s a great time to subscribe!
