The Charlotte Dress is the ultimate in elegance. Stylish and flattering on so many shapes, Charlotte is a day-to-evening dress, gorgeous for those special occasions. Featuring a relaxed, comfy fit, Charlotte has a contemporary feel but with her lovely collar, v-neck faux wrap and pretty hourglass shape, she offers a nod to the elegance of the past.

The Charlotte Dress is a pleated dress with a faux wrap-over front, a waistband, lapel collar and grown on sleeves. It closes at the centre back with an invisible zip. Designed with lots of style-ease for a comfortable fit, the dress comes with a fabric belt to cinch it in at the waist, held in place with belt loops. Oh and don’t let us forget the best feature – roomy pockets!

Designed with intermediate stitchers in mind, this is a techniques-filled pattern with lots to learn. Create a beautiful finish inside and out with a self-lined waistband, cleverly-crafted collar and a new method for inserting pockets. Charlotte can look completely different depending on fabric choice, so no matter what occasion you have coming up, this pattern has you covered.

Fabric Suggestions

To ensure the fabric will be able to hold the pleats and the collar, Charlotte is best made in a medium weight woven fabric with drape, such as medium weight crepe, lightweight wool, linen, or a linen viscose mix. We recommend the fabric has some body, and suggest avoiding lightweight fabrics such as rayon challis, georgette and silk. Charlotte looks completely different made in a patterned fabric versus a solid colour, so there’s lots of fun to be had when designing your dress.

The Charlotte Dress PDF sewing pattern is sized between UK sizes 8-20. See the chart for details on fabric requirements. 

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.

What will I receive?
The downloadable pattern file contains:

  • printable pattern (in both tiled print-at-home and copyshop format)
  • fully-photographed printable instruction booklet
  • copyshop permission letter

So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
