The Frida Blouse & Dress is easy to wear, comfy yet sophisticated. Inspired by the peasant style blouses and dresses worn by Frida Kahlo, it suits all shapes and ages. We wanted to create a simple sewing pattern that works in different types of fabric. Make it in cotton for a boxy shape or in drapey fabrics like viscose and Tencel for more movement, especially in the dress version.

Frida features a front and back yoke, with pleats on both sides of the bodice and a choice of two sleeves: a simple short sleeve for warmer weather or a long one with fuller gathers at the shoulder and elastic at the wrists, perfect for autumn and spring. The blouse looks great over jeans or smart trousers like our Ultimate Trousers and the dress can be made in a mini or midi length. Wear it with sandals or pumps in the summer or with tights and boots in the autumn.

Make your Frida in a fun patterned fabric or use a plain one to highlight the pleat details and add a statement necklace for a smarter look. You can also have fun customising Frida with embroidery, ribbon or piping around the yoke to make your peasant style blouse and dress truly unique!

Fabric Suggestions
We recommend sewing the Frida Blouse or Dress in light to medium weight fabrics with lots of drape such as rayon/viscose, double gauze, broderie anglaise, crepe or Tencel. Cottons with a soft handle, like cotton voile, lawn or Swiss dot, will also work. You will need 50cm (sizes 6-20) or 75cm (sizes 18-30) of 6mm elastic if making the long sleeved version.

Sizing & Fabric Requirements
Frida is sized between UK sizes 6-30 and is split into two different blocks, sizes 6-20 and sizes 18-30. See the chart for details on fabric requirements.

Size Chart 6-20

Size Chart 18-30

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.

So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
