The Suraya Jacket is a casual, everyday jacket with more than a nod to the classic mac. Just the kind of light, drapey jacket we love for mild weather, Suraya makes a welcome addition to any autumn, spring or summer wardrobe. Wear yours with jeans and T-shirt for dressed-down chic, or pair it with your favourite blouse, skirt or dress to elevate your look.

Suraya features a host of lovely details, including epaulettes, storm flaps, sleeve loops, a back vent, welt pockets, collar and lapels. The main body of the jacket is unlined, though the set-in sleeves are lined for comfort. The seams are bound with bias binding for a stunning, super satisfying finish. The jacket is designed to hang open so there are no closures at the front.

The process sewer in us loves these details, but if you prefer a simple, quick make, there are lots of steps that could be omitted. Skipping the epaulettes, sleeve loops and seam binding will make Suraya a speedier sew!

Sewing Level
The Suraya Jacket is an Intermediate sewing pattern.

Fabric Suggestions
We recommend medium weight woven fabrics with drape for the Suraya Jacket, such as linen, viscose linen, and certain mid weight crepes and twills. You could also use some lightweight wool suitings. We recommend avoiding anything crisp-feeling or with a lot of structure. For the lining we recommend lightweight wovens with a silky finish, as the lining will help the sleeves to slide on and off easily. Choose satin, acetate, or even silk charmeuse for all-out luxury.

Fabric Requirements
The Suraya Jacket sewing pattern is sized between UK sizes 6-30. The pattern is split into two different blocks, sizes 6-20 (B cup) and sizes 18-30 (D cup). See the chart for details on fabric requirements.

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.

What will I receive?
The downloadable pattern file contains:

  • printable pattern (in both tiled print-at-home and copyshop format)
  • fully-illustrated printable instruction booklet
  • copyshop permission letter

The Suraya Jacket pattern is either 39 A4 pages, 42 US letter pages, or 2 A0 copyshop page (sizes 6-20), or 48 A4/US letter pages, or 2 A0 copyshop page (size 18-30).

If you purchase the PDF Pattern + Copyshop Printing option, you will also receive your pattern printed on A0 paper in the post. Find out more about our PDF Printing Service here.

So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
