When the weather gets cooler, our sewing thoughts turn to knit fabrics. Comfy and snuggly, knits fulfil all our "secret pyjama" needs. Meet the Emma Dress and Alice Top available as PDF patterns or as part of our Intro to Sewing with Knit Fabrics online class on Stitch School.
Both Emma and Alice are knit staples and great projects for knit novices and experts alike.
Let's meet the patterns!
Emma Dress
The Emma Dress is your perfect everyday fit & flare knit dress. Comfy and beautiful, it features a form-fitting princess-seamed bodice with a lovely round neckline, and a pretty pleated skirt.
The set-in sleeves are a classic 3/4-length and the dress closes with an invisible zip in the centre back seam. (But a lot of customers have told us if your fabric has enough stretch and recovery, the zip can easily be omitted!)
Designed to be sewn in a stable, heavier-weight knit such as ponte di Roma, Emma is easier to sew than it sounds, and makes a great dress to have a go at if you're new to knits.
Alice Top
The Alice Top is a gorgeous v-neck top with a pretty bow-effect bust detail, designed to be sewn in lightweight knit fabrics like viscose/bamboo jersey. Alice comes with individually graded cup sizes (ranging from A to D) to ensure the best fit. The depth of the bust panels can be adjusted to suit you too - if you want a less revealing neckline, simply gather the bust panels a little less at the centre front, and adjust the length of your tab to match.
Alice also features 3/4-length sleeves and a fully-lined bust for a beautiful finish on the inside and minimal topstitching.
Perfect for everyday wear, Alice's slim-fitting bodice is ideal for tucking in to jeans, high-waisted trousers and skirts. Make a feature of the bust lines with a solid fabric, or jazz your version up with a print.
