The Bonnie Blouse is a pretty, feminine 1940s-inspired waisted blouse with a touch of glamour. It features a button-up front with vertical pleats on the front bodice, a concealed button placket, flat collar, bust darts and short sleeves with little turn-up cuffs. It has a waistband which cinches in the waist, with a sweet un-buttoned opening at the front waist. The Bonnie Dress version features an elegant knee-length gathered skirt and easy-to-wear elasticated waist.

Both the blouse and dress can be made without the pleats if you fancy a speedier make.

Great for work and play, Bonnie Blouse is beautiful worn with a pair of high waisted trousers or a lovely full skirt for a nod to its vintage-inspired design. For a more modern feel, it’s fabulous worn with a slimmer, more structured skirt.

The Bonnie Dress version is also an all-occasions all-rounder. In a classic navy or black the Bonnie Dress is perfect for the office, whilst in a fun colour or print she’s dressy enough for a wedding guest or party dress. For extra party vibes, swap the skirt to your favourite circle skirt and you’ll be twirling all night!

Sewing Level
The Bonnie Blouse is an intermediate level sewing pattern. Although not hugely advanced in construction, it has some tricker steps such as the concealed button placket and pleats, which require some precision. If you are an advanced beginner, you could try making the version without the pleated front as this is a little simpler.

Fabric Suggestions
For Bonnie we recommend lightweight woven fabrics with drape, such as rayon and viscose, lightweight crepes, silk charmeuse, crepe de chine, sandwashed silk, georgette or chiffon. Some very fine cotton voiles could work as long as they’re soft and drapey, but we’d advise against lawn and anything heavier, especially for the dress version, unless you want a more structured garment.

Fabric Requirements
The Bonnie Blouse & Dress sewing pattern is sized between UK sizes 8-20. See the chart for details on fabric requirements.

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.

What will I receive?
The downloadable pattern file contains:

  • printable pattern (in both tiled print-at-home and copyshop format)
  • fully-illustrated printable instruction booklet
  • copyshop permission letter

The tiled print-at-home PDF sewing pattern is 30 pages long for the blouse and an additional 12 for the skirt if making the dress version, or 3 A0 pattern sheets

If you purchase the PDF Pattern + Copyshop Printing option, you will also receive your pattern printed on A0 paper in the post. Find out more about our PDF Printing Service here.

So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
