The Dorothy Jacket is an easy-fitting utility jacket with a convertible collar and simple press stud fastenings. It features roomy front patch pockets with plenty of space for all of your essentials, as well as stylish, faux chest pockets.

The fabulous drawstring waist and hip-length design is super flattering whilst being oh-so comfy to wear.

Destined to become your go-to jacket for spring, it’s unlined so the perfect light layer to throw on over your Lucy Dress, or team with your favourite pair of jeans and a Molly Top for an effortless daytime look.

With more than a nod towards the classic military jacket, we named the Dorothy Jacket after journalist Dorothy Lawrence. Dorothy secretly posed as a male soldier during World War 1, making her the only known English woman on the frontline.

Add-On: Make your Dorothy even more practical by adding a detachable hood! The Dorothy Jacket Add-On Hood pattern is exclusively available as part of a workshop on Stitch School. Find out more here.

Sizing & Fabric Requirements
The Dorothy Jacket sewing pattern is sized between UK sizes 6-30. The pattern is split into two different blocks: sizes 6-20 (B Cup), and sizes 18-30 (D Cup).  See the chart for details on fabric requirements. Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.

The Dorothy Jacket is perfect for medium weight fabrics, such as cotton twill, cotton drill, twill crepe, gabardine, stretch denim and heavier linens.

You will also need 70cm of lightweight interfacing, 13x12mm metal press studs, 2x8mm metal eyelets and 1.5m of 5-6mm drawstring.

It’s optional, but you may also want to get 2x cord locks and 2x cord ends (make sure these are large enough to accommodate your drawstring). You can also choose to use matching topstitch-weight thread throughout. Be sure to use machine needles that are heavy enough for your fabric.

To make it super easy for you to get sewing, we’ve rounded up all of the essential supplies you’ll need and created a handy Dorothy Jacket Hardware Kit you can add to your basket!

So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
