The Jessie Coatigan is a warm, unlined jacket, perfect for that in-between seasons Autumn and Spring weather. Depending on your fabric choice, Jessie can be worn as outerwear or a cosy top layer for wearing around the house. Sitting somewhere in the cosy depths between coat and cardigan, try a smart melton wool for a 60s-inspired jacket, or a cosy knit for snuggling up at home.

Jessie is an unlined swing-shape jacket with shawl collar, drop shoulder sleeves and nice deep pockets. The raw edges at the centre front are finished with a wide facing to keep the inside seams hidden. A nice quick make, the Jessie Coatigan has no closures, but can be wrapped closed and secured with a belt if you prefer. The hem of the coatigan hits mid-thigh while the sleeves are can be folded up to bracelet length thanks to a deep facing, or left longer.

The Jessie Coatigan is a Confident Beginner sewing pattern.

Fabric Suggestions

We recommend medium to heavy weight woven or knit fabrics with a good drape, such as melton wool, boiled wool and boucle. We suggest avoiding “crisper” knits such as French Terry.  Knits with wool content work really well, thanks to the added drape and weight.

Pattern Sizes & Fabric Requirements

The Jessie Coatigan sewing pattern is available in UK sizes 6-30. The pattern is split into two different blocks: sizes 6-20 (B Cup), and sizes 18-30 (D Cup). See the size charts below for details on fabric requirements.

Jessie is designed to be slightly oversized so that you can wear a thick jumper underneath, or wear it as a maternity cover-up.  If you’re not planning to wear it over bulky layers, you may want to size down. In these images, Lisa (size 8/10 in our patterns) is wearing a size 10 and Chantelle (usually size 24) is wearing a size 20 with a 3 inch FBA (full bust adjustment).

What is a PDF pattern?

A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper.

Choose to add on A0 printing and we will print the pattern on our A0 printers and post it to you so all you need to access digitally is the instruction booklet.

If you're using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm. Never used a PDF pattern before and would like some help? Learn everything you need to know in our free tutorial How to Assemble a PDF Pattern

Is this sewing pattern layered?

Yes! This pattern is layered so you can print off just the size(s) that you need. Find out more about layering here.

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.
