Featuring a stylish revere collar with statement lapels and a half-moon collar stand for added structure, Opal is a fully-lined oversized coat with a generous wrap that will keep you cosy in the coldest months. Large patch pockets are sewn over the side seams and the coat closes with a tie belt held in place at the sides with optional thread belt loops. Sizes 18-30 also include a small bust dart for easier fitting.

Make version one for a full-length coat that will turn heads, or go knee-length with version two. Use a neutral colour to create an Opal that goes with everything, or make a statement piece with a beautiful jewel tone or a print! It’s perfect for wool, but you could also use a canvas or other coating fabrics.

This pattern is packed with details to advance your sewing skills and create a coat you’ll be reaching for years from now.

Fabric Suggestions

For the Opal Coat, we recommend a medium to heavyweight fabric such as tweed, boucle, melton, jacquard and boiled wool. For the lining, opt for a viscose or crepe - something that will allow you to put your coat on with ease.

Huge thanks to our friends at Minerva who provided all the fabrics for our gorgeous samples.

The Opal Coat is available in UK sizes 6-30 and is split into two different blocks: sizes 6-20 (B cup) and sizes 18-30 (D cup with an added bust dart). See the size charts below for details on fabric requirements.

What is a PDF pattern?

A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper.

Choose to add on A0 printing and we will print the pattern on our A0 printers and post it to you so all you need to access digitally is the instruction booklet.

If you're using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm. Never used a PDF pattern before and would like some help? Learn everything you need to know in our free tutorial How to Assemble a PDF Pattern

Is this sewing pattern layered?

Yes! This pattern is layered so you can print off just the size(s) that you need. Find out more about layering here.

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.
