The Penny Dress is one of our most popular patterns, and with the Add-on Pack, you’ll be able to get three more garments out of Penny! Inspired by a hack we did a few years ago, we decided to create new pattern pieces and detailed instructions to help you make many new versions of this SOI classic. Use the Add-on Pack to make Penny into a tie-front blouse to wear over jeans, or add the tie detail to the dress for an on-trend look. You can even turn Penny into a stylish playsuit featuring a comfy elasticated waist plus a concealed button fly, turn-up hems at the legs and roomy slanted pockets. All three versions will fit perfectly into your summer wardrobe!

The Add-on Pack includes the following pattern pieces, plus new instructions to show you how to adapt the original Penny Dress pattern:

Penny Tie-Front Blouse front bodice and front facing pieces
Penny Tie-Front Dress front bodice and front facing pieces
Penny Playsuit front bodice, front facing, trouser and pocket pieces

Fabric Suggestions

The Penny Dress and Add-on Pack sewing patterns are extremely versatile when it comes to fabric. Most light or medium weight woven fabrics, such as cotton, linen, rayon, viscose, wool, crepe or even silk (if you’re feeling adventurous!) will work. Just remember that slippery fabrics are harder to sew!

The Penny Dress and Add-on Pack are available in UK sizes 6-30 split into two different blocks: sizes 6-20 (B cup) and sizes 18-30 (D cup). See the size charts below for details on fabric requirements

The pattern is either 39 A4/US letter pages or 2 A0 pages (sizes 6-20), or 50 A4 pages, 51 US letter pages, or 3 A0 pages (size 18-30).

What is a PDF pattern?

A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper.

Choose to add on A0 printing and we will print the pattern on our A0 printers and post it to you so all you need to access digitally is the instruction booklet.

If you're using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
