Meet the Bronte Cape, the lightweight layering piece you'll reach for whenever a cardigan feels too casual and a jacket is too much.

Designed to slip over dresses, jumpsuits and sleeveless tops, Bronte adds just the right amount of coverage without hiding your outfit. Whether you're heading to a summer wedding, dressing up for an evening out, or even looking for the perfect finishing touch to a bridal outfit, Bronte adds softness, movement and just a little drama.

The gentle cowl neckline drapes beautifully, making it the ideal project for sheer mesh fabrics and those special prints you've never quite known what to sew with. Choose from three front hem lengths and two side panel lengths, from subtle everyday coverage to long flowing panels that create a striking silhouette. Better still, it's incredibly easy to customise both lengths, so you can create the perfect Bronte for your outfit.

With just a handful of pattern pieces and simple construction, Bronte is one of those satisfying projects you'll finish in an afternoon. It's beginner friendly, quick to sew, and a brilliant introduction to working with stretch mesh fabrics.

Bronte works best over outfits with a defined waist - try it with the Maria Dress or Courtney Jumpsuit for a gorgeous wedding guest outfit, or with the Ultimate Jeans or Rosemary Trousers and a vest top for more everyday vibes. The limit of Bronte is only going to be your imagination!

Fabric Suggestions

For the Bronte Cape you will need a knit or mesh fabric with at least 70% 2 or 4 way stretch. For the best effect we recommend using a fabric which is sheer or semi-sheer.

Huge thanks to our friends at Minerva for sending us the fabric for the pink and black Bronte Cape samples

What is a PDF pattern?

A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper.

Choose to add on A0 printing and we will print the pattern on our A0 printers and post it to you so all you need to access digitally is the instruction booklet.

If you're using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm. Never used a PDF pattern before and would like some help? Learn everything you need to know in our free tutorial How to Assemble a PDF Pattern

Is this sewing pattern layered?

Yes! This pattern is layered so you can print off just the size(s) that you need. Find out more about layering here.

Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.
